Coordinating Formalwear

One of your main duties as the groomsmen and best man will be figuring out attire for the big day. This includes figuring out where to rent or buy suits, getting all sizing and measurements done, and making sure that every piece of the attire matches, if that’s what the groom wants. You also have to keep in mind the time frame of the wedding to ensure that everything is in order for the big day. All of this can get hectic and a little complicated, so it’s usually up to  best man to coordinate the specifics and get everyone on board. Keep in mind that group ordering the tuxes is usually a good way to save a little money too.

Planning a Bachelor Party

You know the groom and what he likes, so it’s up to you to decide what kind of bachelor party is right for him. Choosing the destination, the activities, and planning a good time is super important. This will allow you to bond with other groomsmen and let the groom blow off steam. The bachelor party can be anything from an overnight stay at Reynolds Plantation playing golf to a night drinking with the boys at Pauley’s. Keep everyone’s budgets in mind, as you will be splitting the fees of the excursion. Usually, the best man is at the head of the preparations, so make sure to give your input or recommendations to him.

Attending Pre-wedding Celebrations

From engagement parties to wedding rehearsals, being involved in the wedding process can be a really great way to meet new people and bond. Weddings are a celebration, and the groomsmen have the opportunity to create a fun environment for all the guests. Take the opportunity to relax, have fun, and get to know people in the wedding party at rehearsal dinners and other pre-wedding festivities. It’s also a great time to practice your public speaking skills by giving impromptu speeches and planning out what to say on the big day.

Be a Helping Hand

On the day of the wedding, a lot of people might look to you for information about where they are sitting, the order of the day’s events, or even where the bathroom is. Having you there to answer these questions  can ensure that the day goes smoothly. The best man usually helps direct the wedding party as well by making sure that everyone knows what time and where things like photos are happening. Weddings can be stressful for the groom, so it’s important that you help him out with small tasks if you can.

Helping Tie-Up Loose Ends

It’s important that you make plans to help out once the wedding is over. Often times, the groomsmen can help distribute checks or tips to the vendors. This should be planned for in advance, so make sure you have the money to pay them at the end of the night so the newlyweds can enjoy their getaway. It is also helpful to help clean up and organize things that the couple might want to keep, like centerpieces or other memorable decor.

Being a groomsman is such an exciting privilege. Make sure you do your duties but remember to have fun!
