When temperatures begin to rise and the grass turns green, spring is clearly on it’s way. In a state with unpredictable weather, like Georgia, spring currently feels like it starts as early as February, but April and May are safer bets for lovely weather and warm days.

Nothing beats a walk around North Campus or the Botanical Gardens during spring, with the lovely greenery and historic buildings, but does this mean you should have a wedding in Athens in the spring? There’s advantages and disadvantages to this season.

A clear advantage is the weather and the scenery; it won’t be too hot or too cold to have a ceremony outdoors. This bodes well for wearing a dress with or without sleeves, for brides, bridesmaids and guests alike. Flowers like tulips, daffodils, and roses come into season in the spring, perfect for a bouquet or decorations.

However, spring isn’t all sunshine and daisies. Before you set a spring wedding date, remember that the weather can be unpredictable, so you may need to go for an indoor venue. In Georgia, everything gets coated with yellow pollen during spring, which can irritate everyone’s eyes, noses, and throats. If there’s a chance of sneezing and red, itchy eyes in your photos, spring may not be the season to get married.

In the end, if you’ve always dreamed of a spring wedding or it just feels right, go for it. The color scheme is already clear and always classy, and Athens is in its prime. Plus, spring literally means “originate,” so it’s the perfect season to start your marriage and begin your new life with your forever partner.
