The State Botanical Gardens of Georgia are located right in Athens, which is such a treat for both locals and visitors. It’s an expansive garden with a greenhouse and 313 acres of displays and natural areas. It’s the perfect place to stroll around on a nice day or read a book next to some of their foliage. If you’re having a wedding in the spring and summertime, this is a great place to divert your guests.

Georgia Theatre

The Georgia Theatre always seems to be hosting something! The theatre is one of the staples of downtown Athens and the community itself. Athens has one of the best music scenes for a small town. Big names like R.E.M., John Mayer and even Taylor Swift have played at the downtown venue, and there’s no stopping the steady stream of local and smaller bands who play at the theatre almost every night. Depending on the time frame of your wedding and the weekend, let your guests know if there’s a show in town that they may be interested in attending. They may even be able to grab a local Athens brew on the rooftop if it’s nice weather!

Creature Comforts Brewery

In addition to being famous for music, Athens produces some killer local beer (for those 21 and up of course). Terrapin Beer Co. and Southern Brewery Co. are two of the biggest breweries in Athens, but the most convenient one to downtown is Creature Comforts Brewery Co. located on Hancock Ave. In their tasting room, they offer guests the opportunity to try all of their different brews. They’re most famous for the Athena and the Tropicalia, but check out their whole selection. It’s a great way to spend some free time on an afternoon the day before a wedding.
