Football season in Athens is both the most fun and most hectic time of the year. Hundreds of thousands of Bulldog fans rush into the city as they watch the dawgs take on the opposing team. Saturdays in Athens are unlike anything else, and what other environment would be better for a wedding? Due to the vast amount of people in the city as well as the energy of the atmosphere, there are definitely things you will want to look out for while planning your big day. Here are some tips for planning your wedding around and during UGA football season.

Timing:

Although weddings are often on Saturday, that may interfere with the main event of the weekend: the UGA football game. If you are looking to have an Athens wedding during football season, it may be best to plan it around the big game in order to prevent distractions and chaos surrounding the game.

Hotels:

Due to the influx of people in the Athens area during football season, it is crucial to book a venue and hotel as early as possible. Some of the best hotels to stay in include the Springhill Suites, the Holiday Inn Express, the Hilton Garden Inn and the Hyatt. Every one of these hotels is right in the center of Downtown Athens and can provide all of the amenities to make your stay the best it can be. During football season, however, these hotels book up fast and furiously, so be sure to book your reservation as early as possible.

Venues:

While any of the previously mentioned hotels would also make a great venue, there are several other locations in Downtown Athens that would be even better during Football Season. Live Wire Athens, the Taylor-Grady House and Georgian Hall would all make incredible locations to host the ceremony. As with the hotels, these places are sure to book up fast during the season, so make sure you book early.

Box seats:

What better way to spend your wedding weekend than in a Stanford stadium sky suite. SkySuites hold 18 to 36 fans and are the superior way to watch the Bulldogs in action. Each suite comes with a restroom, 2 flat screen TV’s, a refrigerator, wet bar area and plenty of seating. Additionally, all guests have a main food buffet in their suire as well as a dessert buffet and coffee bar in the common area.

Activities Downtown:

Other than just the game itself, there are several other activities that bring Athens to life on football weekends. Check out a few of the 80+ bars in the downtown area in which you are sure to get the full UGA experience. Bars such as Magnolias, AllGood, Hybar and Creature Comforts encompass the Athens feel while providing delicious drinks and even better memories. During football season, there is no better way to celebrate the big day.

An Athens wedding during any season would be amazing, but during the prime time of football season would be truly unforgettable. It may be a little wild and a little more expensive, but the experiences you are likely to get are unlike any other.
