A lot of engaged couples share a dog, and it’s not uncommon to include the fur child in engagement pictures, but what about the actual wedding? Your pup is there with you through everything (college, jobs, moving, dating, and now a wedding), so it would seem almost absurd to leave such an important family member out of the event. Now, this goes without saying, but you must have a well mannered pooch to get through the ceremony. If your dog has what it takes to be in your Big Day, some of these ideas will make you swoon.

Groomsman or Bridesmaid
Having your four-legged best friend standing by your side is absolutely adorable, and you can easily include them in your wedding party. Depending on whether your dog stands with the bride or groom, a bridesmaid or groomsman can walk her down the aisle and towards the altar to watch with the rest of the wedding party. To make it even cuter and coordinated, you can adorn them with flowers that match your bridesmaids, or tuxedo pieces that match the groomsmen. Some couples even go the extra mile and tie a bandana embroidered with “Best Dog” or “Dog of Honor”.

Flower Girl or Ring Bearer
Letting your pup bring you the rings or walk with the flower girls will be an absolute show stopper. This is especially perfect if you don’t have a younger boy to be a ring bearer or little girls to throw flowers. Decorate your dog’s collar with flowers and call her up the aisle, or if you do have flower girls, let them leash her alongside; the pictures would be so cute. As the ring bearer, you can tie the rings (very securely) to your dogs collar, fashion a ring cushion on top, or just let him walk with your little ring bearer.

Imagine your guests patiently waiting for the ceremony to begin, and your beloved sidekick rounds the corner adorned with flowers or a bowtie; a hilarious tearjerker. Even if your wedding is formal and fancy, incorporating your dog in the service will make it more personal and light hearted, and the photos will be priceless.
