Now that you’ve found the dress of your dreams, it’s time to pick the dresses to compliment it. When it comes to picking the perfect dresses for your besties there’s a lot to consider, but we have the perfect list of tips that will help make the decision process easier.
- Start by searching around
My favorite go-to tool is interest. You can start by creating a Pinterest board where you can organize all of your ideas for dress styles and colors. You might even consider sharing the board with your bridesmaids if you want any input from them! BUT, keep in mind that the decision is ultimately up to YOU. These are the dresses that will help your dress stand out. If you don’t like Pinterest, there are tons of websites like this one that lets you search by style, color, and price range! If you’re a scrap booking type, you might have fun cutting dresses out of magazines and making a moodboard like the one below.

The first question you may want to consider is: Are you paying for your bridesmaid dresses or will you have them buy their own dresses? People do both! It really depends on your wedding budget. If your bridesmaids are paying for their own dresses you could consider looking into affordable options found on Azazi.com or even Lulus.com. Of course there are millions of sites but these are some popular ones I’ve seen used. Rent the Runway is also a great option to find designer styles for a fraction of the price!
3. Keep time in mind
Whether you’re ordering the dresses or your bridesmaids are ordering their own, this should be done months in advance to allow for shipping. You’ll want to also make sure there’s time for any sizing exchanges that may need to happen if a dress doesn’t fit.
Bridesmaids dresses are almost always measured using a person’s waist, hip, and bust. It is best to tell your bridesmaids to order a size larger than usual. It also is much easier to alter a dress that is too big rather than too small.
5. Picking a Shade
The first thing to consider is the date of your wedding. What season is it in? Dresses in richer colors like rust and emerald and even gray look best for fall and winter weddings. For a spring or summer wedding, maybe consider light blues, champagne, or pinks. Also consider your venue in this decision. What colors are your flowers, napkins, table cloths? You won’t want the room to be filled with clashing colors, so these are important details to keep in mind.

A really pretty trend I’ve seen is using an analogous color scheme for the bridesmaids dresses. This is seen a lot with blues; a mix of light blue, blue, and dark blue.

6. Dress style
Do you want your bridesmaids all in the same dress? Some bridal parties have a mix of body types and making sure your girls feel comfortable in what they wear is a big thing to consider. Make sure to ask them how they feel in their dress! Just like using different shades of a color, you can use different styles of a dress. If you decide to do this, you might want to make sure that all the dresses are the same material to keep them cohesive.
