Launched in 1973 as the city’s first publicly sponsored art program, the Lyndon House Arts Center seeks to celebrate and encourage the development of art in the Athens community. The center does this by acting as a gallery and museum, as well as by offering studio space, educational programs, and community events that support the arts. Exhibitions featuring both local and regional artists rotate frequently through the center’s numerous galleries. The center’s public funding makes access free to the public and helps make it an affordable option when looking for a wedding venue. (Athens-Clarke County Unified Government)

The art center contains numerous spaces that can be rented for events (LHAC Rental Information Packet). Luckily, to assist with decision making, Lyndon House offers a special wedding package that provides access to the lower atrium (pictured above), community room, kitchen, lounge, and north terrace at $1200.00 for two hours (additional hours are available at $145 an hour). This provides plenty of space for an ideal large wedding. The atrium can double as a space for either the ceremony or the reception. The package allows for private space in the community room and lounge that may be convenient for bridal parties and family.

For more intimate ceremonies or perhaps smaller events preceding the big day such as showers, the spaces offered in the package can all be rented separately at various prices. Outdoor spaces are also available for rent. The north terrace and lawn, as well as the gardens and lawn surrounding the historic Ware-Lyndon house are available, each pair at $240.00 a piece. The north terrace offers a pleasant hilltop view spanning north of downtown Athens while the well kept gardens of the central house offer a more classic experience. Either would make for a beautiful intimate ceremony or casual reception. (LHAC Rental Information Packet)

However your ceremony may look, Lyndon House has the options and versatility to meet your vision. From a glamorous ceremony among unique pieces of art to a delightfully quaint afternoon celebration in the garden, the art center is an eager host. More information on booking, including Lyndon House’s rental terms of agreement, can be found in the center’s Rental Information Packet. The local art center is a staple of the Athens community and would be the perfect venue for any couple looking to start their lives together in the Classic City.
