Wedding planners are an extremely valuable resource for you when you’re planning a wedding! Because it is their career and they deal with the aspects of all things weddings every day, they are extremely knowledgeable about wedding planning. Not to mention, hiring a wedding planner can take away a lot of the stress that comes with the wedding planning process. So, you’re not entirely sure what to expect from your wedding planner? Well, keep reading to find out!
At the consultation with a potential wedding planner, you will typically meet with them and discuss your needs and their services. This gives you the time to talk about your vision for the wedding, and the planner will discuss the different planning packages that they offer. Typically, the different packages will allow for a different level of involvement in the wedding planning process on the wedding planner’s part. This being said, some packages may have less involvement with the wedding planner and some may have more. You and your significant other should really discuss beforehand how involved you want the wedding planner to be. Do you want them to basically fully plan the entire wedding, which is typically known as “full service,” or do you want less involvement on their part, but also the assurance that they will be there to make sure that things go smoothly on your wedding day, which is known as “day-of-coordination”? This decision will impact what type of wedding planning package you choose!

If you choose a day-of coordinator, you can expect them to mainly help in the few weeks leading up to the wedding and the day of the wedding. Before the wedding, the wedding planner will contact all of your vendors and finalize all the details. They should be sure to have updated contact information from all of your vendors prior to your big day in order to contact them promptly if needed. Another responsibility is making sure that everyone who is in the wedding party will attend the wedding rehearsal. We all know how important rehearsals are!
On the actual wedding day, you should expect your wedding planner to arrive early to the venue to oversee all of the vendor arrivals and setups. Hopefully, at this point, everything is going smoothly according to the wedding planner’s timeline that they’ve created! Once the ceremony actually begins, you can expect your wedding planner to make sure that the ceremony is going along as planned. After the ceremony, the wedding planner will oversee that all of the guests are sent to the reception while the bridal party takes photos and the bride and groom get ready for their entrance to the after party!

Full Service Wedding Planner
As the name implies, a full-service planner is going to do all of the same things as the day-of coordinator plus way more throughout the entire wedding planning process. Needless to say, this service is going to cost more than the day-of coordinator, so keep that in mind when you’re looking at your budget!
A full service planner is probably going to start the planning process with a conversation with you about your wedding budget because as we know, the budget affects every step of the process. The wedding planner will then take your budget details and bring you information about venues and various vendors that your budget will allow you to work with. This is extremely helpful for any engaged couple because it is really going to take a lot of the time spent doing research out of the entire process. Once you make decisions on which venue and vendors you want to use for your wedding, your planner should read through all of the contracts very carefully! Another thing you may want your wedding planner to assist you with is deciding what the bridal party will wear during the wedding. However, this isn’t something that you have to include your wedding planner in if you don’t want to.
