Your bridal party will be some of the most important people included in not only your wedding day but all the events leading up to it. From wedding showers to bachelorette and bachelor parties, and conjoined family celebrations to rehearsal dinners, these people will be there supporting you each step of the way. But how do you know who to include and who to leave out? Well, the good news is that there are no rules to this game! It’s your wedding and you get to choose whoever you want! However, if you’re wanting to keep things on the simpler side, we have some advice for you!

Here is a list of some of the top people you should be thinking about when it comes to the bridal party…

Maid or Matron of Honor

The maid/matron of honor role doesn’t just go to anyone. This person should be one of the most important people in your life because it is such an important role! When most people think of the maid/matron of honor they probably think of a best friend or sister. In most cases, it ends up being one of the two. However, this spot can be filled by almost anyone. It can be your cousin, mom, aunt, sister-in-law, or even your grandma. This role is so much fun because this person will be such a big help on your wedding day and this day will be such a special moment to share together and remember forever!

These are your go-to gals, your besties, and the people you just can’t live without. Choosing bridesmaids can be a little stressful because you don’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings by not including them and it can be difficult to choose how many girls you want standing by your side. I would recommend starting with the most important people who you want there without a doubt, then adding from there. This will probably include your sisters, best friends, sister-in-laws, cousins, etc. You can have as little or as many as you want because it’s your special day with your special people!

Best Man

Just like the maid/matron of honor is usually a very important person in the bride’s life, the best man is just the same for the groom. This role can be filled by anybody you want whether it be your brother, dad, brother-in-law, grandpa, or best friend. Don’t forget this person will most likely be giving a speech about you during the wedding, assisting in pre-wedding activities, and providing moral support while the groom is about to marry the woman of his dreams. In other words, make sure he’s cut out for the job.

Not sure of the correct term to use when it comes to a man’s best friends, but I think it’s something along the lines of “the boys.” These are your childhood best friends, cousins, brothers, brother-in-laws, etc. The best way to figure out how many groomsmen you should have is to talk to your bride about how many bridesmaids she wants to include. Once you both settle on a number, it’s ideal to choose the same or a close amount for pairing up for picture purposes. After all, it’s all up to the bride… right?

Flower Girl/Ring Bearer

Flower girls and ring bearers always make for the sweetest introduction to a wedding ceremony. If there’s a little girl or little boy in the family, they will be perfect for this role because they are already comfortable being around the family. Flower girls and ring bearers are definitely optional, but give a light hearted touch to your wedding that the guests love!

I hope this advice leaves you with a good idea of who you want standing beside you through this special time in your life. This is such an exciting season and it’s most fun when you’re surrounded by people that love you most. Remember that you can’t please everyone and there aren’t enough spots to let everyone stand beside you. Ultimately, it’s up to you to form the perfect bridal party and create the wedding of your dreams!
